When you hear the name Samus Aran, you already know who this is: she’s the bounty hunter of the Metroid series. She’s the character that many people see as an influence for the emergence of female protagonists. She’s the chick who kicks alien’s butts with confidence. But have you ever wondered what she does when she’s NOT on the job? Let Chris Furniss show you what he thinks Samus does on her off-days with The 31 Days of Zero Suit Samus – Hardcover Collection.

The 31 Days of Zero Suit Samus – Hardcover Collection is a project which collects the little comic strips of The 31 Days of Zero Suit Samus, which depicts Samus in her Zero Suit (for non-gamers and non-aware gamers, Zero Suit Samus is the naked form of Samus when she’s not in her usual Power Suit. This was introduced in Metroid: Zero Mission and was again featured in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid: Other M). So basically, the Zero Suit Samus depicts her as just an ordinary person like us. Chris Furniss, the creator, has drawn 31 separate strips to show all of us what Samus is like on her days off. Whether it’s showing a TED presentation on how to go into morph ball mode to flying a kite (using her buddy Metroid as the kite), it’s fun to see Samus enjoy a day without killing anything. The strips also include Nintendo characters such as Mario and Link to add some variety to her life.

The project was created so Chris could print out hardcover copies of the artwork. He had made them online but it was his goal to make them in a printed form. The book includes not just all 31 artwork but also some new ones and unseen artwork with contributions from various artists and friends. As of the moment, the funding was success, with funds of $28,755 of the $20,000. As a fan of the Metroid series, I like this project very much. For someone who’s used to seeing Zero Suit Samus kick butt all day, it’s nice to see her take a day off from work. Plus, I like the art style.
